Campsite Tartaruga

Welcome to Campsite Tartaruga, one of the most beautiful camping locations in Greece, nestled in the stunning southern end of the Bay of Laganas on the scenic island of Zakynthos. For the past 33 years, this charming campsite has been lovingly operated by Anna and Veit, who have cultivated a warm, welcoming atmosphere that encourages guests to return again and again.

Location and Setting

The campsite is perfectly situated on a well-kept terraced site populated by numerous olive trees, including some old and gnarled varieties that add character to the landscape. Over the past decade, more than 700 additional trees have been planted, ensuring that even during the busy summer season, there are plenty of shaded spots available for relaxation.

The terrain is designed to provide privacy and space, with small and large terraces that create sufficient distance between camping neighbors, making it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility amidst nature.

Beach Access and Activities

Just a short walk down from the campground lies a narrow pebble beach, approximately 60 meters from the tavern. Here, guests can enjoy swimming and sunbathing, with amenities including two jetties and a floating platform equipped with ladders for easy access to the crystal-clear waters. Small boats can be moored at designated buoys for those looking to explore the surrounding area.

Additionally, the tiny island of Marathonissi, a picturesque sight visible from both the beach and the tavern’s terrace, is located about 2.5 km offshore and can be reached by power boat in about 10 minutes. This proximity makes it an ideal destination for a day trip or leisurely afternoon excursion.

Dining and Hospitality

The campsite features a delightful tavern that offers magnificent, affordable Greek cuisine, although it’s important to note that due to special circumstances in 2020, the tavern is only open in the evenings. Guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the stunning views of the sea.

For those who appreciate the wonders of nature, the beach is also a fantastic spot for turtle watching during early summer, with binoculars available for borrowing from Anna and Veit, allowing guests to admire these gentle creatures as they swim in the clear waters.

A Peaceful Retreat

Campsite Tartaruga is designed for those seeking peace and relaxation, with the soothing sounds of nature providing an ideal backdrop for unwinding. The sight of the rising sun over the sea and a refreshing morning swim are perfect ways to start the day. Whether you’re looking for a serene escape or simply seeking to enjoy the local flavors and hospitality, Tartaruga is truly a hidden gem in Greece.

Hidden gem

A hidden gem of a campsite with nothing but positive experiences. The beautiful surroundings and peaceful atmosphere make it a top choice for a vacation. While the steep terrain and lack of grocery options can be inconvenient, they do not detract from the overall enjoyment of the stay.

Perfect escape

This campsite is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The serene environment and lack of crowds make it an ideal place to relax and unwind. The absence of grocery stores on-site and the steep incline might pose some challenges, but they are minor compared to the overall experience.

Great getaway with beautiful views

The campsite offers a fantastic tavern with delicious food and a stunning view of the sea. It’s great for those looking for a secluded retreat with plenty of recreational activities available in nearby towns. The only downside is the steep hillside location, which may not be suitable for everyone. Additionally, there are no grocery stores on-site for convenient food shopping.
