Camping at Mount Mitchell State Park

The campground at Mount Mitchell is open from May 1 to October 31, providing nine designated walk-in tent campsites. Each campsite is equipped with:

  • 10×10 foot tent pads for comfortably accommodating your tent.
  • A grill for cooking and a picnic table to enjoy meals al fresco.
  • Bear-proof storage containers to keep food and scented items secure and safe from wildlife.

Reservations are required and can be made up to 6 months in advance. Each site can accommodate up to 6 people, allowing for a cozy camping experience. Please note that temperatures can be significantly cooler at the summit than in neighboring towns, so be sure to prepare appropriately for the weather.
