Track Access

Saxon Campsite is conveniently positioned within a day’s hike from various points along the Heaphy Track:

• 1 hr 30 min walk from Gouland Downs Hut
• 3 hr walk to James MacKay Hut

Its location makes it an ideal resting spot for trekkers, allowing you to recharge for the adventure ahead.

To secure your spot at Saxon Campsite, bookings are required. Prices vary based on the season and age group:

• 1 May – 30 September:
  • Adult NZ: $19
  • Child NZ (0-4 years): Free
• 1 October – 30 April:
  • Adult NZ: $19
  • Adult INT: $28
  • Child NZ (5-17 years): $9
  • Child INT (5-17 years): $14
  • Infant (0-4 years): Free

Please note that proof of eligibility is required for New Zealand rates, and the DOC Campsite Pass cannot be used at this campsite.

Important Considerations

• Situated beside Saxon Hut, but hut facilities are not available for campers.
• Dogs and other pets are not permitted due to conservation land rules.
