Location and Accessibility
Sea Camp Campground is located just a half mile from Sea Camp Dock, making it easily accessible once you arrive on the island via ferry. As it’s situated within the boundaries of Cumberland Island National Seashore, campers can enjoy the unspoiled beauty of nature, including pristine beaches, maritime forests, and rich historical sites.
Camping Features and Amenities
- Max Capacity: The individual sites can accommodate up to six persons, while the group campground can host up to 20 individuals (children under 2 years do not count towards the maximum).
- Water Supply: Drinkable water is available at Sea Camp, as well as at Plum Orchard and Stafford Beach.
- Restroom Facilities: Campers have access to restrooms and showers, enhancing your stay with a touch of comfort.
- Campfires: Allowed only at designated fire rings at Sea Camp and Stafford Beach, where you can gather dead and down wood or purchase firewood on the ferry.
- Food Storage: It’s important to store or hang all food to prevent encounters with local wildlife, particularly raccoons.
- Quiet Hours: Enjoy restful nights with enforced quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Wildlife and Nature
Cumberland Island boasts an incredible range of wildlife, including wild horses, deer, and various bird species. Visitors are reminded to respect the natural habitat; never approach wild animals closer than 50 feet, as they can be unpredictable.
Camping Regulations and Guidelines
- Permits: All campers must obtain permits in advance, and every person included in the permit must occupy the site.
- Backpacking Requirements: Carts and wheeled coolers are prohibited north of Sea Camp, so be prepared to backpack all gear to other campgrounds.
- No Pets: Only service animals are allowed on-site, ensuring a peaceful environment for all guests.
- Hammocks: Must be free-standing, as tying to trees or structures is not permitted.
- Stay Limit: Campers may stay for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights.
Important Notes for Campers
Campers must be aware that there are no trash cans on the island; please pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles. Access to the wilderness campsites and some areas may be restricted during managed hunts, typically occurring from October through January. Always check the calendar for availability when planning your trip.

Reservations can be made online up to six months in advance, and early planning is advised, especially during peak seasons. Campers should ensure they have a round-trip ferry ticket or alternative transport arranged prior to their visit.
