Campground Features
- Location: Situated along River Road East, just 13.7 miles from the paved road to Rio Grande Village, Solis is easily accessible yet secluded enough for a peaceful retreat.
- Campsite Availability: Two designated campsites are available, Solis 1 (SO-1) and Solis 2 (SO-2), each accommodating different numbers of visitors and vehicles.
- Solis 1 (SO-1): Accommodates up to 12 people and 2 vehicles.
- Solis 2 (SO-2): Accommodates up to 15 people and 3 vehicles.
- Unique Landscape: Enjoy breathtaking views of the Mariscal Mountain and Sierra San Vicente hills, with a stark, rugged terrain that captures the spirit of the Chihuahuan Desert.
- Access to River: Just a short distance away, visitors can reach the Rio Grande, perfect for river floating or simply appreciating the natural beauty of the area.
Amenities
Being a primitive campsite, facilities are limited, providing a true backcountry experience:
- No Shade: The campsites provide no natural shade, so visitors should prepare for direct sunlight during the day.
- Limited Amenities: Restroom facilities, potable water, and other amenities are not available at the campground.
- Vegetation: The area is characterized by sparse vegetation, including creosote and lechuguilla, contributing to the authenticity of the desert landscape.
- Generators: The use of generators is prohibited to maintain the area’s natural tranquility.
Campsite Conditions
Visitors should be prepared for the following conditions:
- Road Access: The River Road is maintained for high clearance vehicles only, and during rain, both River Road and the Solis access road can become muddy and impassable, often requiring a 4-wheel drive.
- Site Management: Those camping at Solis should be mindful of their belongings and secure them effectively, as theft can be an issue in this area.
- Backcountry Permits: A backcountry permit is required for use of the campsites, ensuring that all campers are adhering to park regulations.
