Cabin Overview

The Winstanley Island Cabin is a cozy 12×14 ft. pan-abode style cabin that accommodates up to 6 people. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Two single bunks and two double bunks for comfortable sleeping arrangements.
  • A table with benches for meals or games.
  • A cooking counter and food storage area.
  • Basic cleaning supplies including a broom and dustpan.
  • Wood stove for heating during chilly Alaskan nights.

Note: The cabin has no electricity or indoor plumbing, ensuring an authentic wilderness experience. Visitors must bring their own amenities including sleeping bags, cooking gear, and firewood, as it is not guaranteed on-site.

Location & Access

Situated on the eastern side of the Behm Canal, the cabin can only be accessed by float plane, boat, or kayak, making it a truly remote and secluded destination. A mooring buoy is available on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing visitors arriving by boat to securely anchor their vessels.

Natural Features

The surrounding wilderness is a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife including:

  • There are no cell phone services or electricity in the cabin, ensuring a true escape from the daily grind.
  • Visitors must be aware of bear safety guidelines and weather conditions, especially as they can be unpredictable.
  • Be prepared to pack out all trash and food and clean the cabin before departure.
  • This area is a designated wilderness and access by helicopter is illegal.
