Located in the breathtaking Custer Gallatin National Forest, Moose Creek Flat Campground is nestled in scenic Gallatin Canyon, just 32 miles south of Bozeman, Montana. The campground sits at an elevation of 5,700 feet next to the beautiful Gallatin River and Moose Creek, offering adventurers a perfect base for outdoor activities in a picturesque setting.
Available Campsites
This campground features a variety of single-family campsites, all of which are designated as standard nonelectric sites. Each site is equipped with the following amenities:
- Picnic table
- Campfire ring
Additionally, there is a Group Picnic Area (Site 14) available for day use only, which includes three standard-sized picnic tables and can accommodate up to 50 people.
Natural Features
The campground is surrounded by a dense forest of pine and fir, while the open meadow features stunning views of the mountains. Visitors are often treated to sightings of a variety of local wildlife which includes:
- Bald eagles
- Bighorn sheep
- Moose
- Elk
- Mountain goats
- Deer
- Coyotes
- Black and grizzly bears

Moose Creek Flat Campground is an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. The surrounding area provides ample opportunities for:
- Hiking: Explore various trails including the Swan Creek Trail and the Golden Trout Lakes Trail.
- Fishing: Anglers can experience fishing for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, along with whitefish and Arctic grayling directly in the Gallatin River. An accessible fishing dock is also available.
- Rafting and Kayaking: The Gallatin River is perfect for adventurous river activities.

While the roads within the campground are paved, visitors should note that the parking spurs are gravel.
Important Information
Please be aware of wildlife safety regulations. Bears frequently visit the area, so it’s essential to store all food in approved containers and secure it when your site is unoccupied. Additionally, firewood can be purchased nearby, though visitors are encouraged to prevent the spread of pests by obtaining firewood locally and burning it on-site.
Overnight camping fees allow for two vehicles; however, an additional fee applies for each extra vehicle.
