Accommodation & Fees
The campground features a diverse range of accommodations with a capacity for a maximum of 250 people. The fees are structured as follows:
- Adult (18+ years): $15 – $18 per night
- Child (5 – 17 years): $7.50 – $9 per night
- Infant (0 – 4 years): Free
Note that bookings are required all year round, especially during the peak period from December 1 to February 28, and public holiday weekends. All bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Facilities and Services
Port Jackson Camping Ground provides essential facilities to enhance the camping experience:
- Cooking Shelter: A communal space for meal preparation and gathering.
- Boats Storage and Access: Limited space for boats; beach launching with 4WD only.
- Water Access: Water access from the campsite is not guaranteed; there is a stream from which water can be obtained, but it should be boiled or treated before drinking.

Location & Access
To reach Port Jackson, follow Coromandel’s scenic Colville Road for 22 km until Whangaahei Junction, then turn left onto Port Jackson Road. The last leg of the journey takes you along a narrow, winding unsealed road, which may be compromised in places but offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors are advised to use a reliable and well-maintained 4WD vehicle due to the rough conditions, particularly a water crossing between Port Jackson and Fletcher Bay during heavy rains.

Regulations & Safety
To maintain the natural beauty and integrity of the area, several rules are strictly enforced at Port Jackson Camping Ground:
- No Fires: Fires are not permitted at any time.
- No Pets: Dogs and other animals are prohibited to protect wildlife.
- Pack In, Pack Out: Campers must take all rubbish and food waste with them; no rubbish or recycling facilities are available.
- Vehicle Limitations: Only one vehicle per group due to limited parking space.
