Camping Experience
This standard campsite features 40 non-powered/tent sites, providing ample space for groups and families to pitch their tents and soak in the surrounding beauty. While there are no designated sites, campers are encouraged to find a suitable spot upon arrival, allowing for a more open and spontaneous camping experience.
Amenities and Fees
- Adult (18+ years): $10 per night
- Child (5-17 years): $5 per night
- Infant (0-4 years): free
- Bring your own firewood: Fires are permitted in designated fire places, subject to fire bans.
- No mobile phone coverage: Enjoy a true getaway with no distractions.
To secure a spot at the campsite, bookings are required year-round. Advance booking is highly recommended as space availability can be limited. If you choose to book in person, please note that a $10 service fee will apply. Ensure your party’s size is accurately reflected in your booking, as there are no designated sites and space must be self-assigned upon arrival.

To reach the campsite, travelers should turn off SH1 at Balcutha, drive south past Owaka until the Ratanui turnoff, and then follow Purakaunui Falls Road to Long Point Road, concluding with Purakaunui Bay Road to the campsite. Please be prepared for narrow, gravel roads as you approach this remote site.
Rules and Regulations
While dogs are permitted on a leash, other pets are subject to conservation land rules. Fire restrictions may be in place, so always check current regulations before lighting fires. The DOC Campsite Pass can be utilized at this campsite, offering an affordable option for regular campers.
