Location & Accessibility

Situated in the San Carlos Ranger District, Purgatoire Campground is easily accessible yet maintains a sense of remoteness that allows visitors to immerse in the serene beauty of the Pike and San Isabel National Forests. The campground is divided into two loops: one featuring a grassy meadow designed for equestrian campers, and the other situated within a wooded area of aspen and spruce trees to offer a balance of sunlight and shade.

Campsite Features

This campground boasts a variety of campsite options:

• Standard Nonelectric Sites: Sites 02, 04, 06, 07, 08, 10, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.
• RV Nonelectric Site: Site 09.
• Equestrian Nonelectric Sites: Sites 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17.

Each campsite is designed with essential amenities, including:

• Campfire rings for cozy evening gatherings.
• Picnic tables, perfect for outdoor dining and relaxation.
• Vault toilets, ensuring convenience without compromising the natural setting.

Essential Information

Before planning your trip, it’s essential to keep these considerations in mind:

• The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of 8 people per site, allowing for either 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 RV.
• All camping fees include parking for two vehicles; however, an additional fee applies for extra vehicles.
• Firewood must be sourced locally to prevent the spread of invasive species. Please do not transport firewood from other locations!
• Be bear aware: Always store food and cooking utensils securely in vehicles and keep your campsite clean.
• Fireworks and discharging firearms are strictly prohibited within the campground.
