Camping Options

The campground boasts 61 campsites designed to accommodate various camping preferences. Out of these:

• 43 sites are equipped with full hook-ups including electricity, sewer, and water.
• 18 primitive sites, providing a more rugged outdoor experience with water nearby.

Each site can fit approximately 6-8 people comfortably, allowing for a couple of tents or a full-sized recreational vehicle. Some sites offer a maximum trailer length of 40 feet, and there are a couple of pull-through options available for easy access.

Location and Access

Reaching El Chorro Regional Park is straightforward, whether you’re coming from the North or South:

• From the South: Take the Santa Rosa Street exit once you enter San Luis Obispo city limits. Turn left onto Santa Rosa, which becomes Highway 1. Continue for approximately 4.5 miles. The park will be on your right.
• From the North: Take the Highway 1 / Morro Bay exit and follow the signs to the stoplight at Santa Rosa Street. After turning right onto Santa Rosa, continue for about 5 miles. The park will be on your right, across from Cuesta College.

Historical Significance

El Chorro Regional Park has a fascinating history. Once a land utilized by local ranchers for dairy production and cattle grazing, it became federally owned in the 1940s and was used as a military training camp during WWII and the Korean Conflict. In 1972, it was transferred to the county under President Nixon’s “Legacy of Parks” initiative, transforming it into a beautiful natural park and recreational area for the public.
