Natural Features

Lake Ashtabula was formed in 1944 following the construction of the Baldhill Dam on the Sheyenne River. This area is renowned for its picturesque scenery, rich wildlife, and serene environment. The lake and surrounding region are part of the unique ‘prairie potholes’ ecosystem, which features glacially-carved lakes nestled amidst thick forests.

Spring and fall are particularly captivating, showcasing breathtaking views of migratory waterfowl, including the iconic white pelican. The lush habitats around the lake also support a diverse range of wildlife such as white-tailed deer, sharptail grouse, wild turkey, and gray partridge.

Eggerts Landing Campground presents a total of 41 campsites, 37 of which are equipped with electrical service. Each site is designed to provide privacy and an inviting space to unwind amidst nature, ensuring a tranquil camping experience.

Getting to Eggerts Landing Campground is easy! The main access route is via Interstate 94, taking the Valley City exit 292. Continue north on County Road 21 for approximately 10 miles, following signage to the campground.
