    Nestled among the magnificent quaking aspens at an elevation of 10,000 feet, the Gold Basin Yurt in Moab, Utah offers an unforgettable alpine getaway. This winter retreat provides adventurers with unparalleled access to the pristine backcountry of the La Sal Mountains. Accessible only during the winter months, the yurt is the perfect launching point for a variety of winter sports.

    Access & Trail Information

    The journey to the Gold Basin Yurt begins with a well-groomed and flagged 1.5-mile ski or snowshoe tour from the Geyser Pass parking area. With minimal elevation gain, this trail is suitable for those with intermediate experience. It is important to note that while snowmobiles are permitted, they are restricted to the road, ensuring a peaceful and pristine experience for yurt guests.

    • Total distance: 1.5 miles from the parking area
    • Trail conditions: Groomed and flagged for easy navigation

    Yurt Features & Amenities

    The cozy Gold Basin Yurt spans 20 feet and can accommodate up to 8 guests, making it an ideal place for family or group outings. Inside the yurt, you’ll find:

    • Two bunks capable of sleeping 1 person on top and 2 on the bottom
    • Two large cots with sleeping pads (please note that bedding is not supplied)
    • A fully-stocked kitchen area with all necessary cooking equipment
    • A dining table and chairs for meals and gathering
    • A wood-burning stove to keep the space warm and cozy
    • A small library with board games for entertainment

    Getting There

    Traveling from Moab to the Gold Basin Yurt is straightforward and takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Guests will follow scenic roads through the La Sal Mountains, with clear signage directing the way:

    • Head south on US-191/Main Street for 7.8 miles.
    • Turn left onto Co Rd #127/Old Airport Rd.
    • After 0.6 miles, turn right onto Co Rd #127/Forest Road #046 (La Sal Mountain Loop).
    • Travel for 11.5 miles and then right onto Forest Road #071 (Geyser Pass).
    • Park at the winter parking lot where your adventure begins!
