About the Campground
Black Mountain Campground lies in the shadow of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in the eastern United States, at an elevation of 3,040 feet. The campground is adjacent to the serene South Toe River, providing a peaceful backdrop for campers. The lush, sprawling wilderness is part of the Appalachian forest, rich in wildlife and diverse plant species, offering a true escape into nature.

- 37 Primitive Campsites: The campground offers a mix of camping options, including tent-only sites and sites with electric hookups.
- Picnic Tables and Campfire Rings: Each campsite comes equipped with picnic tables, tent pads, lantern posts, and campfire rings, perfect for enjoying meals under the stars.
- Restroom Facilities: Facilities include hot showers and flush toilets for added comfort during your stay.
- Firewood and Supplies: Campers can purchase essentials like firewood, ice, tee shirts, and souvenirs.
- Limited Cell Service: Visitors should note that cell service is limited, although texting might still be possible.

Black Mountain Campground offers a variety of options for campers. While some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, other reservations can be made in advance. Additionally, generators are permitted for use up to four hours per day, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
