Located on the beautiful South Core Banks, Great Island Cabin Camp is a hidden gem within the stunning Cape Lookout National Seashore. Campground Features

The campground features 23 rustic wooden cabins, perfectly positioned to provide breathtaking views of the beach. Each cabin varies in size, accommodating families and small groups of up to 12 people. Cabin sizes range from 288 to 960 square feet, and come equipped with:

Private bathrooms with sink and shower stall
Hot water heaters
Tables and chairs
Small kitchens with cabinets and a propane oven/stove
Outdoor grills

Note that while the cabins are wired for generator use, guests must bring their own generators, with a maximum capacity of 5,500 watts or equipped with GFI.

Accessibility and Transportation

Reaching Great Island Cabin Camp is part of the adventure! The camp is bordered by a high-clearance 4WD road due to deep sand, making it essential for visitors to ensure their vehicles are appropriate for the terrain. An Off-Road Vehicle Driving Permit is required and can be purchased in advance through Recreation.gov. Upon arrival, show proof of this permit to the camp staff to receive a corresponding decal for driving on the island.

For those without a boat, ferry services from Davis, NC, are available. It’s crucial to make reservations in advance, whether you choose the Cape Lookout Cabin and Camps Ferry Service or the Davis Shore Ferry Service.

Accommodations and Amenities

While camping in tents is prohibited within the cabin camp, families can obtain permits to allow a maximum of two tents outside the cabin for accompanying minors. Amenities include:

Check-in time at the Great Island Cabin Camp is 2:00 PM, with a strict check-out time of 10:00 AM. It is advisable to inform the camp office in case of late arrival. Cancellations made less than 14 days prior to your stay will incur a service fee in addition to the forfeit of the first night’s fee.
