About the Park

Featuring a unique array of vibrant lichens draping the granite and rhyolite cliffs, Painted Rocks State Park stands out not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural history, important to the Salish people for countless generations. With a park size of 23 acres set at an elevation of 4,724 feet, visitors can explore both the scenic landscape and the historical significance of the area.

Campground Features

25 Campsites: The campground offers a varied selection of campsites catering to different needs.
Reservations: Six campsites are reservable from Memorial Day through Labor Day, specifically from Thursday through Sunday. The remaining sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
RV Access: The campground has two sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 35 feet in length, with an additional 23 sites suitable for vehicles up to 25 feet.
Nature Observation: The campground is an excellent spot for wildlife viewing, offering sightings of elk, deer, black bears, and various bird species, including the majestic Bald Eagle.

Established Fire Pits: Enjoy cozy campfires at designated fire pits.
Grills/Fire Rings: Provided for grilling and outdoor cooking.
Public Restrooms: Vault toilets are available for convenience.
Boat Launch and Dock: The park features a boat ramp for hand launching, although trailers or motorboats are not recommended due to water level considerations.

Fees

Campsite fees vary from $4 to $34 per night, depending on the season and amenities selected. Additionally, there is a day-use entrance fee of $4 for walk-ins or buses, and $8 for vehicles. Montana residents can enjoy reduced rates if they pay the state parks fee along with their vehicle registration.
