Please remember to buy firewood locally and adhere to the local regulations to protect California’s forests.

    Driving Directions

    Getting to Fir Cove is convenient and scenic. If traveling from Highway 101 or Highway 5, follow these steps:

    • From Highway 101, head west on Highway 36 at Red Bluff for approximately 2 hours until you reach the sign for Ruth Lake at Mad River Road.
    • Avoid the Zenia Road exit at Garberville to prevent a two-hour detour on winding back roads.
    • Instead, continue north until reaching the Hwy 36 exit near Fortuna, then head east for about an hour until arriving at Mad River.
    • After crossing the bridge at Mad River, take the Mad River Road turn-off on the right, following signs for Ruth Lake for the final 20-minute drive to Fir Cove Campground.
