Welcome to White Star Campground, located in the stunning Leadville Ranger District, Colorado. Nestled at an elevation of 9,200 feet, this picturesque campground is set against the backdrop of Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado. Surrounded by fragrant ponderosa pines and offering convenient access to the Twin Lakes Reservoir, White Star is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Campground Features
- Site Capacity: Each campsite can accommodate up to 8 people, with a maximum of 3 tents or 1 RV and 2 tents per site.
- Loop Configuration: The campground features three loops: Sage Loop, Ridge Loop, and Valley Loop.
- Facilities: Amenities include vault toilets, picnic tables, campfire rings, and trash collection.
- Firewood: Firewood is available for sale at the camp host site for $10.00 per bundle.
- Parking: The nightly fee includes parking for 2 vehicles; a fee of $10 is applied for a 3rd vehicle.
- Generator Policy: Generators may not be operated after 10 PM, with exceptions for medical equipment.
- Pet Policy: Dogs, including service and therapy dogs, must be leashed at all times.
Natural Features
The White Star Campground is perfectly situated near Twin Lakes, which are known as Colorado’s largest natural glacial lakes, spanning 2,805 acres. Here, visitors can enjoy a variety of water activities such as sailing and water skiing, or partake in fishing for lake, rainbow, and Mackinaw trout.
Additionally, the surrounding area offers breathtaking views of Mount Massive and access to the 30,540 acres of the Mount Massive Wilderness Area, ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the scenic beauty of the Rockies.
Recreational Activities
- Hiking: The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and the Mount Elbert Trail are nearby.
- Biking: Certain sections of the Continental Divide Trail are open to mountain bikers.
- Fishing: Anglers can access various fishing areas near the RV dump station.
- Water Sports: Twin Lakes provide opportunities for sailing, water skiing, and jet skiing.

Due to its high elevation, visitors should exercise caution when traveling from lower elevations. Please note that no RV or boat trailer hookups are available, and ATVs and dirt bikes are prohibited within the campground.
