How to Create a Magical Campsite Setup
19 August 2025
Let’s be honest—camping isn’t just about where you go, but also how your campsite feels once you’re all set up.
After years of pitching tents, trailer tents, and camper setups, we’ve found that a little bit of effort can totally transform your space—from a plain old patch of grass into a cosy, magical camp you won’t want to leave.
You don’t need expensive gear or hours of planning. With just a few lights, layout tricks, and personal touches, your pitch will feel more inviting, more organised—and honestly, a lot more fun.
Your setup starts with where and how you pitch your gear.
A few golden layout rules:
Lighting is the quickest way to turn your setup from basic to magical.
What we love:
A soft ground covering makes your pitch feel more comfortable and more put-together.
Make your chairs or trailer tent benches extra comfy with:
Keep your space tidy and styled with multi-use storage.
Make your campsite feel like yours.
Simple decor ideas:
Whether you’re travelling as a couple, family, or solo—having a “quiet corner” makes a big difference.
It might be:
Yes, it should look good—but don’t forget to plan for easy access, safety, and bad weather.
You can make your site beautiful without creating extra rubbish.
1. Choose Your Layout Wisely
- Keep your sleeping area separate from cooking and lounging
- Create a clear “entrance” with a mat or bunting
- Leave space around your firepit or stove for safety
- Set up your table and chairs to face the best view (even if it’s just your fairy lights)
2. Add Light for Function and Ambience
- Warm LED fairy lights (solar or battery) strung around tents, guy lines, or trees
- Rechargeable lanterns for inside and outside use
- Headtorches or clip-on lights for hands-free evening tasks
- Solar path lights to guide the way to the loo at night
3. Define the Space with Rugs and Mats
- Use an outdoor rug or woven mat under your table and chairs
- Put a welcome mat or old towel by the entrance to trap dirt
- For trailer tents, place a large mat in the centre of the awning to separate indoor and outdoor zones
4. Bring Cosy Blankets and Comfy Cushions
- Fleece throws or picnic blankets
- Cushions from home in a storage-friendly bag
- A bean bag or camping stool for lounging in the sun
5. Use Crates, Boxes or Baskets for Storage
- Wooden crates double as storage and side tables
- Plastic boxes can be hidden under a rug or tablecloth
- Soft baskets hold toys, snacks, or kindling
6. Add a Few Personal Touches
- Bunting or flags across guy ropes
- Reusable tablecloth in a fun print
- A small vase of wildflowers on the table
- A couple of photos, a camping mug with your name, or even a mini chalkboard with your daily meal plan
7. Create a Chill-Out Zone
- A hammock between two trees
- A low camping table with books and games
- A folding recliner and side table with a drink holder
- A soft mat for kids to play on, away from the cooking area
8. Keep It Functional (and Safe)
- Keep paths clear—no tripping over pegs in the dark
- Protect gear from rain with a tarp or awning
- Secure your lights and decorations so they don’t blow away
- Always store gas and fire gear safely and well away from sleeping areas
9. Keep It Low Waste and Easy to Pack
- Use reusable bunting, cups, plates, and cloths
- Pack collapsible tubs or crates to keep it tidy
- Choose multi-use decor (e.g. a crate that’s also a seat or table)
