Camping is welcome year-round in most parks, although comfort stations close during the winter months and some parks are closed because of eagle nesting.

Burning restrictions may be put in place during dry conditions, and some parks may also prohibit campfires. Do not bring out-of-state firewood into South Dakota, and any firewood from a quarantine area must be labeled as emerald ash borer treated and safe to move.
