Located in the stunning Fremont-Winema National Forest in Silver Lake, Oregon, Hager Mountain Lookout offers a unique camping experience at an elevation of 7,195 feet. This rustic location provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding wilderness, including distant peaks such as Mount Hood and Mount Shasta on clear days. The lookout is not only a historical gem, serving as a staffed fire lookout during the fire season, but it also transforms into a winter wonderland from November 15 to May 15, welcoming adventurous campers.

The lookout itself features a cozy 14′ x 14′ cabin that can accommodate up to four guests. Key features include:
- Three beds with mattresses for comfortable sleeping.
- Woodstove and propane stove for heating and cooking.
- A countertop for meal prep.
- An outdoor picnic table for al fresco dining.
- A nearby pit toilet for convenience.
Note that while firewood is provided, there is no running water at the lookout, so guests should bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and washing.

Driving Directions
To reach Hager Mountain Lookout, drive from Silver Lake to County Road 4-12, then proceed south as it turns into Forest Road 28. Follow this road to milepost 9 where you will find a car pull-off on the left. From there, guests must walk, ski, or snowshoe 4 miles to access the National Recreation Trail leading to the lookout.
