History

The park was founded by Joe and Thecla Kwak, a couple from the south side of Chicago who shared a deep love for nature and outdoor camping. In 1965, after purchasing farmland and hardwood forests along the serene Kankakee River, they transformed it into the campground we cherish today. Although the Kwaks have passed, their legacy continues through the Kwak family, who run the park with an ethos of sustainability, respect for nature, and a commitment to providing a warm, welcoming environment for all guests.
