Sparrowfoot Campground is nestled along the Grand River Arm of the picturesque Harry S. Truman Lake in the scenic hills of western Missouri. This nature-filled oasis provides campers with an ideal escape for a weekend retreat or an extended vacation, surrounded by lush hardwood forests and rolling grasslands, enhanced by rocky bluffs that overlook the serene waters of the lake.

The campground features 83 individual campsites that cater to various camping preferences. Among these:

• 56 sites equipped with 50-amp electric hookups and water hookups.
• 27 sites offering 30-amp electric hookups.
• Two large day-use group picnic shelters available for big gatherings and family functions.

The surrounding environment boasts an abundance of wildlife, providing nature enthusiasts with opportunities to observe species such as whitetail deer, turkey, hawks, ospreys, and eagles. The scenic landscape comprises approximately 8,800 acres of standing timber, serving as prime aquatic habitat and enhancing the beauty of the Truman Lake area.

Need to Know

When planning your visit to Sparrowfoot Campground, keep in mind:

• A minimum stay of three nights is required on holiday weekends and two nights on regular weekends.
• You need a permit before camping, available at the park booth.
• One wheeled camper and a maximum of two tents (or three tents) are permitted per camp pad.
• Campers must vacate their campsite for at least 24 hours after 14 consecutive days of camping.

Driving Directions

For those traveling to the campground, please be aware that the access point on Highway 13 is affected by bridge replacement work. It is advised to take the gravel road SE 400 south of the Grand River Bridge if coming from the north, or head south towards the 52 Highway overpass if necessary. This construction is projected to last through early November 2025.

Conservation Efforts

Campers are encouraged to practice responsible camping by adhering to guidelines that help protect the natural environment. Examples include:

• Buying firewood locally and burning it on-site to prevent the spread of tree-killing pests.
• Draining water from all equipment and discarding live bait before leaving to combat the invasive zebra mussel.
