Located in the stunning Northern Coromandel region of New Zealand, Stony Bay Campsite offers a perfect escape into nature for those looking for an adventurous getaway. Nestled beside a picturesque coastline, this campsite is an ideal spot for avid fishers, divers, and those who appreciate the great outdoors.

Access and Location

The campsite is situated approximately 55 km north of Coromandel, accessed via a narrow and winding unsealed road that can be challenging, particularly during heavy rainfall. Guests should be prepared for larger traffic volumes during summer and exercise caution when driving, especially with the possibility of slippery roads.

Facilities

Stony Bay Campsite features:

  • 60 non-powered camping/tent sites
  • Spacious 5-hectare area for camping
  • Packed In, Packed Out: No rubbish facilities are available, so please bring a sealed container for food scraps
  • Campsite Pass holders welcome
  • Boats storage available (small vessels & kayaks recommended)

Camping Fees

The fees for staying at the campsite are as follows:

  • Adult (18+ years): $15 per night
  • Child (5-17 years): $7.50 per night
  • Infant (0-4 years): Free

Note that there is a $10 service fee for phone and in-person bookings. Advanced online booking is required to secure your spot.

Rules and Regulations

Stony Bay Campsite enforces several rules to maintain the natural environment:

  • No fires or fireworks allowed at any time
  • Pets are prohibited
  • No chainsaws, compressors, generators or amplifiers
  • Cooking is limited to gas stoves and other non-flame devices

Booking Guidelines

Bookings are required throughout the year, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive days (or 21 days during peak season from December 20 to February 8). After every stay, a minimum break of 7 days is necessary before returning. Remember that all bookings are first-come, first-served, and walk-ins without a prior reservation may not be accommodated.

Important Notices

Please note that water from the stream should be boiled or treated before drinking. Additionally, during periods of heavy rain, water levels can rise, making certain parts of the campsite inaccessible.
