Welcome to Cottonwood Campground, a serene camping destination nestled in the heart of northeastern Arizona, just east of the charming town of Chinle. This campground serves as a gateway to the majestic Canyon de Chelly National Monument and offers an immersive experience into the breathtaking landscape and rich history of the area.
Overview
Cottonwood Campground is a non-group, first-come, first-served facility that accommodates tent camping and RVs. The campground provides individual campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and a grill for your cooking needs. Please note that ground fires are not permitted. There are designated RV campsites that can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet in length, perfect for those traveling with larger units. Please remember that reservations for RV camping are not accepted at the group site.

- Canyon de Chelly National Monument: The primary attraction nearby, famous for its stunning landscapes and historical significance, showcases ruins built by the Anasazi Indians dating back to 300 A.D. – 1350 A.D. Visitors planning to explore the ruins are required to hire a guide, although the trail to the White House Ruins can be navigated without one.
- Scenic Drives: Enjoy picturesque drives along both the north and south rims of Canyon de Chelly, providing stunning viewpoints of the canyon’s towering cliffs and rich vegetation.
- Four Wheel Drive Tours: For the adventurous, half and full-day four-wheel drive tours of the canyon are available at the nearby visitor center.

How to Get There
To reach Cottonwood Campground from Chinle, travel east on Tribal Road 64 for about 3 miles. After passing the visitor center, turn right to find the campground entrance.

For group reservations, inquiries can be directed through available park contact numbers. The Visitor Center operates daily from:
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (October to April)
- 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (May to September)
