This historic cabin, which served as the Ranger Station for the Red Ives Ranger District from the 1930s until 1984, offers an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while enjoying modern comforts. Located along the beautiful St. Joe Wild and Scenic River, Red Ives Cabin is a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking for adventure and relaxation.
Accommodation Features
The cabin can comfortably accommodate up to six guests and features:
- Two bedrooms, including one with a queen bed and two sets of bunk beds.
- A queen-size futon in the living room for additional sleeping space.
- A fully-equipped kitchen with a propane stove/oven and refrigerator.
- A cozy living room with a gas log fireplace for warmth.
- A bathroom complete with hot water, a flush toilet, and a shower/tub.
- A covered front porch to enjoy your morning coffee or evening sunsets.
For lighting, battery lanterns are provided, though visitors are encouraged to bring additional battery-operated lights for extended use.

Access and Amenities
The cabin is accessible via a narrow one-lane road with turn-outs, located 86 miles southeast of St. Maries. To reach Red Ives Cabin, take Forest Highway 50 (St. Joe River Rd) for 47 miles to Avery, then continue for another 29 miles to Red Ives Road #218. After turning right onto Road #218, travel 10 miles upstream to the cabin.
Please note that absolutely no pets or livestock are allowed, with the exception of service animals.
Reservations and Entry
To gain entry to the cabin, guests must obtain a unique entry key code. This can be arranged by contacting the St. Joe Ranger District upon reservation confirmation. Ensure you have your reservation confirmation number ready when calling.
