Welcome to Whetstone Horse Camp, an idyllic destination nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina. Perfectly situated in the Andrew Pickens Ranger District, this campground caters specifically to equestrian enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, offering a harmonious blend of outdoor adventure and relaxation.

Available Campsites

The campground features a total of 18 well-equipped campsites, each designed primarily for horseback riding excursions. All campsites are by reservation only, ensuring a tranquil and less crowded experience. Each site comes with the following amenities:

• Picnic table
• Fire ring
• Lantern post

Parking at the campground allows:

• Single campsites: 1 camper, 1 horse trailer, and 2 motor vehicles
• Double campsites (Sites 6 and 7): 2 campers, 2 horse trailers, and 2 motor vehicles

Natural Features

Whetstone Horse Camp is enveloped by the natural beauty of the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests which span over 629,000 acres. The nearby Chattooga River presents an excellent opportunity for fishing, paddling, and soaking in scenic views. Campers can also explore the captivating Rocky Gap Trail and Willis Knob Horse Trail, offering over 30 miles of exciting trails dedicated to horseback riding and hiking.

Beyond horseback riding, the campground serves as a launching point for numerous recreational activities:

Please remember to dispose of all manure in designated bins and to keep pets leashed for the safety of all campers.

The campground welcomes visitors year-round, making it an ideal retreat in any season. It’s conveniently located approximately 13 miles from the town of Walhalla, famous for its annual Oktoberfest held every October. With easy access and a network of trails, Whetstone Horse Camp is perfect for creating lasting memories in the great outdoors.

• All horses must be tied to designated highline areas, hitching rails, or stalls.
• Hoses are available for filling water tanks and horse troughs but should not be left attached to water spigots.
• Remember, do not move firewood to prevent the spread of tree-killing pests.
